#28toMake, Day 10

 In Creativity, Inspiration

Gesture drawings are always fun. I remember doing them back in art school and really enjoying the ordered chaos of what I saw when I eventually looked down at my paper. And today on @CreativeLive‘s #28toMake campaign, contour drawing was the assignment. We were to look into a mirror—I used the webcam on my computer—and look at what we saw while our hand created the drawing without lifting the pen.

It’s been years since I’ve done any of these drawings, so it was nice to get back into the headspace of not looking at what was happening on the paper. What I came up with is below. As you can see, my hand, eyes, and brain don’t exactly line up. But I really like the absurdity of the result, and I think I’m going to try to do some more of these; it was a lot of fun.

If you’re up for it, go ahead and do your own contour self-portrait and share it with me. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
